This exciting opportunity is based at David Brown South Africa, which employs about 160 people. There, you will contribute to a high-performing, dynamic workplace that combines local impact with global standards.
In order to meet customer demands, you will use machining equipment to cut gears to specification, producing high-quality products on schedule and within budget.
Duties & Responsibilities
To achieve the outlined general machining KPI’s
Operate gear cutting machines e.g. MAAG, PFAUTER & hobbing machines
Read and interpret drawings and cutting sheets received from the Engineering department
Set up and programming of gear cutting machines
Select the correct cutting tool as per drawing specification
Complete quality checks during the manufacturing stage and final product
Update shift books with proper handover to colleagues/next shift
Ensure SOPs of gear cutting department are adhered to
To motivate and support peers within the general machining department
To optimise the machining department through lean deployment and continuous improvement initiatives
Adhere to health and safety regulations, ensuring a safe working environment
Adhere to company policies and procedures
Carry out any other reasonable instruction given by management
Qualifications, Experience, Skills & Attributes
Grade 12 / Matric Certificate is essential
N3 Mechanical Engineering Certificate and/or qualified artisan (Fitter & Turner / Turner / Machinist) is advantageous
Minimum 3 years’ technical experience in a manufacturing environment. Gear cutting/grinding experience is advantageous
Operate all types of gear cutting machines
Good understanding of engineering principles
Understanding and working knowledge of the latest production processes and techniques
Ability to read drawings and interpret cutting sheets
Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams (e.g. engineering, production, quality)
Knowledge of OHS legal requirements and safe work practices
Willingness to work shifts as required by production schedules
Self-motivated with good interpersonal and communication skills
